Fox Chapel Stay Hot, Takes Down Latrobe
Penn Hills and Woodland Hills were competing for the Section 3-6A regular season championship on Tuesday, but the hottest team in the section might have been playing in another game.
Fox Chapel won its eighth straight game and fourth straight road game on Tuesday with a 75-65 win at Latrobe. The Foxes have also beat Woodland Hills and Penn Hills in that stretch.
The Foxes and Wildcats were tied for third place entering the game. Fox Chapel is now tied for second place with Penn Hills have its win and the Indians’ loss to the Wolverines.
The game changed in the second quarter when the Foxes erupted for 30 points and held Latrobe to only 9. The turnaround gave the Foxes a 48-33 halftime team. They played with the lead for the remainder of the game.
Senior Carson Cohen lead the Foxes with a game-high 31 points. Cohen had plenty of help from senior Dom McGriff, who poured in 24 points. Junior Reed Fenton led the Wildcats with 23 points. Senior Jason Armstrong added 17 points.
The win improves Fox Chapel’s record to 16-4 overall and 10-3 in the section. They will close out section play on Friday when they host Plum at 7:30 p.m.
Latrobe drops to 14-6 overall and 9-4 in the section. The Wildcats finish the section on at Penn Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Latrobe has a chance to tie Penn Hills in the section with a win.
