Fox Chapel knocks off top-ranked Penn Hills On The Road
Defense and free throws down the stretch allowed the Fox Chapel boys’ basketball team to come away with a 61-54 win at Penn Hills on Friday night.
The Foxes led 48-35 entering the fourth quarter, but the Indians stormed back to take a late lead and was not able to run the clock out. After forcing a shot, Fox Chapel was about to corral the rebound and retook the lead for good from the free-throw line.
Senior Dom McGriff led Fox Chapel with a game-high 23 points. Also scoring in double figures for the Foxes was junior Ben Kelly with 19 points. For Penn Hills, seniors Daivon Stephens and Cory Fulton each finished with 15 points.
The win improves Fox Chapel to 13-4 and 7-3 in Section 3-6A. They have now split the season-series with Penn Hills and sit a game back of first-place of the Indians and Woodland Hills. They will go for their sixth straight win on Tuesday when they travel to Norwin at 7:30 p.m.
Penn Hills drops to 16-2 and 8-2. The Indians will look to keep pace for a section title on Tuesday when they travel to Penn-Trafford at 7:30 p.m.
