Fourth Quarter Comeback Keeps Chartiers Valley Undefeated
The Chartiers Valley girls basketball team led throughout the majority of the game, but relied on a fourth quarter comeback to pick up the 41-38 Section 1-5A win at Thomas Jefferson on Thursday night to remain undefeated on the season.
The Colts led 11-5 after the first quarter and 18-14 at halftime, but found themselves deadlocked at 24-24 heading into the final quarter.
Thomas Jefferson took a 36-32 advantage, but Chartiers Valley rattled off nine straight points to take the lead for good.
Leading the comeback in the fourth quarter was senior Mackenzie Wagner and freshman Aislin Malcolm. Both players combined to score all 17 players for the Colts in the fourth quarter.
Wagner scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter, while Malcolm scored 6 of her 11 points in the quarter.
For Thomas Jefferson, senior Jenna Clark and junior Alyssa DeAngelo both finished with 11 points.
With the win, Chartiers Valley improves to 18-0 overall and 10-0 in the section. The Colts will travel to Trinity for a section game on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
