Defending 5A Champ Gateway Shuts Out Penn Hills
It has been a trying season for the Gateway football team, but despite having three games cancelled due to COVID-19 this season, and only playing four regular season games, the No. 2 Gators see themselves in the Class 5A WPIAL semifinals.
Gateway kept their title defense alive on Friday with a 14-0 win over No. 7 Penn Hills.
Both scores game in the first half. Highly touted recruit Derrick Davis scored from three yards out in the first quarter to put the Gators on top.
The Gators extended their lead in the second quarter on a 3-yard pass from Carsen Engleka to Jayden Hurt. Jayson Jenkins converted on both extra points.
The semifinals will be a rematch of last year’s title game against No. 3 Peters Township. Kickoff at Gateway next Friday will be at 7 p.m.
