Chalk held in Class 6A as the top four seeds survived the quarterfinal round and advanced for an opportunity to play in the semifinals tonight.

Both semifinal games are rematches of section games in the regular season. They both will be played at 6:00 p.m. on a neutral court.

No. 1 Peters Township Indians (23-0) vs. No. 4 Bethel Park Black Hawks (21-2) At Canon-McMillan

Top-seed Peters Township continues to roll through its competition with a 57-23 rout against No. 8 Fox Chapel in the quarterfinals. The Indians led 14-2 after the first quarter and held the Foxes to another two points in the fourth quarter. Senior Isabella Mills led the charge with 20 points and freshman Journey Thompson finished with 16 points. In last year’s semifinals, Peters Township defeated Bethel Park, 55-39…The only team Bethel Park hasn’t been able to beat this year has been Peters Township, and that stayed true after the Black Hawks were victorious in the quarterfinals over No. 5 Seneca Valley, 51-45. The Black Hawks and Raiders were tied after the first and second quarters, but Bethel Park was able to win the third and fourth quarters each by three points to seal the victory. Sophomore Olivia Westphal led the way with 18 points. Junior Madelyn Dziezgowski was right behind with 16 points…In the regular season, Peters Township swept the series, winning 68-60 in overtime on Jan. 3 and 61-46 on Jan. 28.

No. 2 North Allegheny Tigers (22-1) vs. No. 3 Norwin Knights (21-1) At Fox Chapel

Both these teams only have one loss on the season and it came to each other in section play as they tied as section champions. In the quarterfinals, North Allegheny struggled to find its offensive rhythm but used their stifling defense to get past No. 7 Upper St. Clair for the second year in a row, 33-26. The Tigers didn’t allow the Panthers to score in double digits in any single quarter. Senior Rachel Martindale led the way with 14 points and sophomore Lizzy Groetsch added 11. In the semifinals last year, North Allegheny defeated Mt. Lebanon, 34-20…Norwin’s offense struggled as well in the quarterfinals, defeating No. 6 Mt. Lebanon, 39-35, also played at Fox Chapel. The Knights jumped out to double-digit lead and had to hold on to a furious fourth quarter rally by the Blue Devils. Senior Jessica Kolesar was the only Norwin player in double figures with 11 points. This is Norwin’s first semifinal appearance since 2016 when they defeated Pine-Richland, 59-30…Both teams won their home games in the regular season with North Allegheny winning 55-44 on Jan. 4 and Norwin winning 44-43 on Jan. 29.
