Chartiers Valley Overcomes Slow Start To Get Past Mars In WPIAL Semifinals
It was looking like deja vu for the Chartiers Valley boys basketball team in the Class 5A WPIAL semifinals again.
After losing to Mars each of the past two years, the top-seeded Colts (22-3) fell behind 13-0 to No. 5 Mars (16-4) in the first quarter of the Class 5A semifinals on Wednesday. There was no panic in Chartiers Valley as they stormed back for a 63-55 win.
The turnaround occurred in the second quarter where the Colts outscored the Planets, 23-9, to take a 32-23 lead into halftime.
Seniors Brayden Reynolds and Garrett Alauzen led the Colts with 26 and 16 points, respectively.
Chartiers Valley will tangle with New Castle for a third times this year in the Championship Game on Saturday at 8 p.m. at North Allegheny.
