Chartiers Valley Girls Jump Back Into Section Race
If they were to have any shot at the section title, the Chartiers Valley girls basketball team needed to win Thursday’s home game against first-place West Allegheny.
The Colts did just that, defeating the Indians 49-39, handing them their first Section 1-5A loss of the season.
It was a slow start for Chartiers Valley, but the Colts were able to pick it up in the middle quarters, outscoring the Indians 26-11 in the second and third quarters.
It was also imperative that the Colts win to split the season series with the Indians, who won the first matchup back on Jan. 4, 52-48.
Leading the way for Chartiers Valley was the two-headed monster of sophomore Megan McConnell with 21 points and junior Mackenzie Wagner with 16 points. Junior Hannah Lindemuth led West Allegheny with 14 points.
The win improves Chartiers Valley to 11-6 and 5-2. They are in third place in the section, only a game behind West Allegheny and South Fayette. They will go four its fourth straight win on Monday at Montour at 7:30 p.m.
West Allegheny drops to 13-5 and 6-1. They will host Moon on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
