Chartiers Valley Clips South Fayette To Finish Second Place In Section
The Chartiers Valley girls’ basketball team will get a better seed in the playoffs than South Fayette in the WPIAL playoffs after defeating the Lions, 57-40, to finish in second place in Section 1-5A. South Fayette finished in third place.
The Colts were in control of the entire game as they took a 31-22 lead into halftime, and only built on the lead in the second half. The win also gave the Colts a season split with the Lions, but still finished a game ahead of them in the standings.
Sophomore Megan McConnell led Chartiers Valley with 18 points and junior Mackenzie Wagner added 15 points. Senior Sam Kosmacki led South Fayette with 13 points.
The win improves Chartiers Valley to 14-6 overall and 8-2 in the section. The will host Oakland Catholic in a non-section game on Friday at 6 p.m.
The loss drops South Fayette to 12-6 overall and 7-3 in the section. The Lions will host Trinity in a non-section game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
