Central Catholic Clip Pine-Richland on the Road to take section lead

Last year the Central Catholic boys basketball team finished below .500 and missed the playoffs. A year later they are the frontrunners in arguably the toughest section in Class 6A after knocking off Pine-Richland, 53-52, on the road Friday night.

The win improved the Vikings record to 5-5 but a perfect 4-0 in Section 1. They also handed the Rams their first section loss, who now sit at 7-3 and 2-1.

Pine-Richland was in control early on, taking a 21-12 lead after the first quarter. That would be the last quarter the Rams would win, as the Vikings outscored them in the final three quarters including 15-10 in the second quarter and held the Rams to seven points in the decisive fourth quarter.

SeniorĀ Luke Nedrow paced the Vikings with 19 points. JuniorĀ Greg Shulkosky led the Rams with 18 points.

Central Catholic will put their perfect section record on the line on Tuesday when they host North Allegheny at 7:30 p.m. Pine-Richland will look to get back on the winning track when they travel to Seneca Valley on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
