Canon-McMillan Books First Trip To WPIAL Girls Volleyball Finals
Canon-McMillan and North Allegheny are going to be seeing a lot of each other this weekend.
The two schools will be squaring off in the Class 6A Football Quarterfinals on Friday, and now thanks to a thrilling 3-2 win on Wednesday night against Pine-Richland at North Hills, will face off in the Class 4A WPIAL Championship Match at Fox Chapel at 6 p.m.
This is the Big Macs first appearance in the title match, as well as qualifying for the PIAA playoffs for the first time.
It was a slow start for No. 3 Canon-McMillan (15-2) after arriving late to the match and dropping the first set, 25-23 to the No. 2 Rams (14-3).
The Big Macs found their groove, winning each of the next two sets by scores of 25-17.
With their backs against the wall, Pine-Richland fought back with a 25-18 fourth set win.
Canon-McMillan dug deep, starting the fifth and decisive set with a 6-1 to claim the 15-8 win and advance to the finals.
