Butler Girls Basketball Clinch Playoff Spot
The Butler girls’ basketball team took another step closer to their ultimate goal by clinching a spot in the WPIAL playoffs with a 40-33 home win against Shaler on Thursday night.
The Golden Tornado stand in second place in Section 1-6A. Despite the loss, the Titans still own the fourth and final playoff spot in the section right now. They are a game up on Pine-Richland.
Butler and Shaler have now split the season series with the Titans winning the first matchup, 41-38, back on Jan. 4.
Shaler held a 17-14 halftime lead, but Butler stormed out of the half in the third quarter, outscoring the Titans 11-5.
Senior Jenna Kunst led the Golden Tornado with a game-high 15 points. Sophomore Emily Cavacini led Shaler with 14 points.
The win improves Butler to 9-6 and 5-2. They will go for its third straight win on Monday when they travel to Pine-Richland for a 7:30 p.m. start.
Shaler drops to 8-9 and 3-4. They will host North Hills on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
