Bethel Park’s Defense Leads Them To Section Win On The Road
The winner of Monday night’s Bethel Park at Mt. Lebanon’s Section 3-6A girls basketball game would have the inside track to second place with an outside shot at still claiming a piece of the section title.
The Black Hawks’ defense made sure that would be them, defeating the Blue Devils, 49-38. Bethel held Mt. Lebanon to 20 points through the first three quarters, as they were able to build a 32-20 lead that they were able to keep up with in the final eight minutes.
Junior Maria Cerro led Bethel Park with 19 points. Freshman Olivia Westphal also reached double figures with 10. Sophomore Haley Sabol paced Mt. Lebanon with 11 points.
The win improves Bethel Park’s record to 12-5 overall and 6-2 in the section, a game behind Peters Township for first place. The Black Hawks will play their last section home game on Thursday against Canon-McMIllan at 7:30 p.m.
Mt. Lebanon drops to 9-9 overall and 5-3 in the section. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Blue Devils, who look to get back on track on Thursday when they travel to Peters Township for a 7:30 p.m. start.
