Bethel Park Upends Upper Dublin, 47-40, in PIAA Second Round
Bethel Park used early offense and clutch shooting late to upend the sixth-seed out of District 1 Upper Dublin, 47-40, Tuesday night at Chambersburg High School. Bethel Park returns to the PIAA quarterfinals after falling in the second round a year ago.
The offense was working early for Bethel Park as they jumped out to an 18-10 lead after a quarter of play. After Upper Dublin was able to cut the lead to four in the second quarter, Bethel Park went on a 7-2 run to get their lead back up to nine. Once again, Upper Dublin was able to fight back and only trailed 25-22 at the half.
Bethel Park continued to fight off Upper Dublin’s efforts once again getting the lead up to nine entering the fourth, but once again the Upper Dublin 38-35 with two minutes remaining. That’s as close as they would get as Bethel Park kept Upper Dublin at arm’s length finishing the game, 47-40.
Olivia Westphal finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Sophia Nath added 10 points.
Jackie Vargas led Upper Dublin with 13 points.
Bethel Park improves to 23-3 overall. Up next for the Black Hawks is Plymouth-Whitemarsh, the third-seed out of District 1 on Friday at Bald Eagle High School at 5:30 p.m. in the PIAA quarterfinals. Plymouth-Whitemarsh defeated Baldwin 53-27.
Upper Dublin’s season ends at 20-8 overall.
