Bethel Park punches ticket to the Pete
Top-seeded Bethel Park took care of business Tuesday night against section-foe Mt. Lebanon at Canon McMillan High School, winning 35-29.
This served as the rubber match as the two teams split the regular season meetings, both winning at home.
The Black Hawks jumped out early getting out to leads of 15-8 after a quarter and 21-11 at the half. Mt. Lebanon hung around all second half, but was never able to get the deficit under three points trailing 32-29 late but two empty possessions and three Bethel Park free throws sealed the Blue Devils fate and propelling the Black Hawks to the WPIAL title game, 35-29.
Lauren Mullen led all scorers with 11 points. Morgan Palmer led Mt. Lebanon with nine points.
Bethel Park improves to 21-2 overall and has punched their ticket to take on North Allegheny in the WPIAL Championship Game at the Petersen Event Center on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Mt. Lebanon falls to 18-6 overall. Even with the loss, the Blue Devils have clinched a spot in the state playoffs. The PIAA First Round will be Friday, March 6.
