Bethel Park Hangs Onto Early Lead To Beat Canon-McMillan
The Bethel Park baseball team jumped out to a big lead early, and were able to hold off defending WPIAL and PIAA champions, Canon-McMillan, to come away with an 11-6 Section 3-6A home win on Tuesday.
The win pulls the Black Hawks into a first place tie with Peters Township.
Bethel Park took control of the game with an 8-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Canon-McMillan stormed back with a six run sixth inning to pull within two at 8-6.
The Black Hawks slammed the door on the comeback bid, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory.
Sophomore Eric Chalus got the win, pitching 5 2/3 innings before the Big Macs chased him. Junior Kevin Kogler got the save, getting the final four outs of the game.
Offensively, Bethel Park spread the wealth with four players driving in two runs.
Bethel Park improves to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the section. The Black Hawks will travel to Baldwin today, April 17, for a section game at 4:15 p.m.
Canon-McMillan drops to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the section. The Big Macs will play Peters Township at Wild Things Park on Thursday, April 18, at 4 p.m.
