Bethel Park Girls Bounce Back To Stay In Section Race
After losing its last game to Peters Township, the Bethel Park girls’ basketball team bounced back as they returned home with a 52-39 victory against Upper St. Clair on Thursday night.
The win kept the Black Hawks a game behind the Indians for first place and in a second-place tie with Mt. Lebanon. They also earned a season sweep against the Panthers, who are still holding onto the fourth and final playoff spot in Section 3-6A.
Bethel Park doubled up on Upper St. Clair in each of the first two quarters, 12-6, to take a 24-12 halftime lead. The Panthers never gave the Black Hawks a real threat to take the lead.
Freshman Olivia Westphal led Bethel Park with 15 points. Kate Groninger led Upper St. Clair with 10 points.
Bethel Park improves to 11-4 and 5-2. They will dip out of the section to host North Allegheny, the No. 1 team in the state, on Saturday at 8 p.m.
Upper St. Clair drops to 7-7 and 4-3. They will also be playing at Bethel Park on Saturday in the DIPG Classic. They will face Seneca Valley at 6 p.m.
