Bethel Park Baseball wins Second Section Title In Three Years

Posted on:

For the second time in three years, the Bethel Park baseball team can call themselves section champions. The Black Hawks accomplished that feat with a 9-4 win at home against Canon-McMIllan in Section 3-6A action.

Bethel Park was able to jump on Canon-Mac early thanks to some erratic pitching from the Big Macs. The Black Hawks build a sizeable lead thanks to six hits and seven walks in the first three innings.

That was more than enough run support for freshman Eric Chalus. Chalus went six innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits and five strikeouts. He only walked one batter.

Offensively, the Black Hawks were paced by seniors Korey Patterson and Adam Malecki. Patterson got the offense going with a two-run double in the first inning. Malecki was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Bethel Park improves to 12-3 overall and 10-1 in the section with its ninth straight win. They will travel to Baldwin on Friday at 4:15 p.m. for its section finale.

Canon-McMIllan drops to 11-5 overall and 8-3 in the section. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak, but the Big Macs still clinched second place in the section. They will host Peters Township in the section finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
