BASEBALL

5A SECTION 1

Armstrong 6, Plum 5 – 10 innings

Brayden Wright walked it off with a homerun in the 10th inning and was also the winning pitcher as Armstrong (2-2, 1-1) bounced back to split the season series with Plum (1-2, 1-1) with a 6-5 extra inning win on Tuesday. Mason Schrecengost had three hits for Armstrong giving him five hits in the series. Dom Beyer homered for Plum while Sean Franzi drove in three runs.

Franklin Regional 5, Penn Hills 3

Brady Yarabinetz hit a bomb and drove in three runs as Franklin Regional (5-0, 1-0) picked up a win in their section opener over Penn Hills (0-1, 0-1) 5-3, on Tuesday afternoon. Blake Bertucci struck out nine for Franklin Regional on the mound.

Penn-Trafford 9, Fox Chapel 3

Brody Hoffman had three hits and drove in four runs as Penn-Trafford (3-1, 1-1) jumped all over Fox Chapel (1-3, 1-1) scoring five runs in the first inning and rolled to a 9-3 section victory to split the season series. Nolan Marasti threw five innings and got the win for Penn-Trafford.

NON-SECTION

Beaver 5, New Castle 1

Taylor Kisling drove in three runs as Beaver (2-0) beat New Castle (0-2) 5-1 in non-section play on Tuesday afternoon. Jack Ray struck out 10 for Beaver on the bump.

Canon-McMillan 2, Peters Township 0

MJ Maruschak, Tyson Mead and Austyn Winkelblech combined to shut out Peters Township as Canon-McMillan (1-1) picked up their first win of the year defeating Peters Township (1-2) 2-0. Dante Piacquadio had two hits for Peters Township.

Connellsville 4, Norwin 1

Kace Shearer drove in three runs as Connellsville (1-2) got in the win column for the first time this season with a 4-1 victory over Norwin (0-3) in non-section play Tuesday afternoon. 

Gateway 8, Kiski Area 4

Nolan Boehm homered and drove in two runs and Taili Thompson drove in two runs as Gateway (3-0) trailed 4-3 going into the seventh inning and came back to win 8-4 on Tuesday afternoon in non-section against Kiski Area (1-2). Nate Witt and Dom Dininno each had two hits for Kiski Area.

Hempfield 5, Bethel Park 3

Adam Hess hit a three-run homer as Hempfield (1-2) picked up an impressive 5-3 non-section win over Bethel Park (2-2) on Tuesday afternoon. Jack Kurdziel and conner Burkey combined to hold Bethel Park to three runs.

Mars 4, Knoch 1

Jake Johnson had three hits and an RBI as Mars (2-2) topped Knoch (1-3) 4-1 in a low-scoring affair on Tuesday afternoon. Jacob Stallsmith had the RBI for Knoch. Jackson Fox picked up the win for Mars.

Shaler 7, Hampton 0

Miguel Hugas struck out seven hitters and picked up the win on the mound for Shaler (3-1) as they shut out Hampton (1-2) in non-section play on Tueday afternoon. Brady McGuire and Alex Venezia each went 2-for-3.

Trinity 4, Ringgold 0

Matthew Smith had two hits and drove in three runs as Trinity (1-1) shut out Ringgold (1-2) in non-section play. Kaden Hathaway picked up the win for Trinity.

SOFTBALL

5A SECTION 3

West Allegheny 15, New Castle 0

Ava Henke was 3-for-3 with three home runs, including a grand slam as West Allegheny (2-0, 1-0) coasted to a 15-0 victory in section play Tuesday afternoon over New Castle (1-1, 0-1). Emily Nolan and Aubrey Police also hit home runs for West Allegheny.

NON-SECTION

Kiski Area 15, Woodland Hills 0 – 3 innings

Hannah Simpson picked up a three-inning perfect game striking out all nine hitters as Kiski Area (2-0) rolled Woodland Hills (0-3) 15-0 in three innings in non-section play. Hannah Hill went 3-for-3 with four RBIs for Kiski Area.

Penn-Trafford 11, Thomas Jefferson 10

Penn-Trafford trailed 10-9 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Cameron Ponko hit a two-run single to walk the game off and give Penn-Trafford (1-2) an 11-10 victory over Thomas Jefferson (2-1) in a wild non-section contest on Tuesday. Mack Keenan was 3-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBIs for Penn-Trafford. Zoe Krizan was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs for Thomas Jefferson.

South Fayette 9, Central Valley 5

Stephanie Binek had two hits, drove in three runs, and got the win in the circle as South Fayette (2-2) got back to .500 with a 9-5 non-section win over Central Valley (1-1). Rylee Rohbeck homered and drove in three runs for South Fayette. Macy Littler had three hits for Central Valley.

Upper St. Clair 7, Seton LaSalle 3

Grace Cassler homered and Sarah Robert drove in three runs as Upper St. Clair improved to 2-0 with a 7-3 win over Seton LaSalle (0-2) on Tuesday afternoon. 

Western Beaver 5, Beaver Falls 3

Emma Bogacki tripled and Abby Tomkowski doubled for Western Beaver (3-0) as they stayed undefeated with a 5-3 win over Beaver Falls (0-1) on Tuesday afternoon in non-section play.
