Baldwin Leapfrogs Canon-McMillan in Softball Standings
Entering its Section 1-6A softball game on Saturday, the Baldwin softball team was a 1/2 game behind Canon-McMillan for first place in the section.
Fast-forward a couple of hours, the Highlanders find themselves a 1/2 game ahead of the Big Macs in the standings after a 6-3 win.
Canon-Mac jumped out to a 3-0 after the first three innings. Erica Haught hit a leadoff home run, followed by doubles from Katelyn Greaves and Olivia Ulam for a 2-0 lead in the first. Lindsay Schmidt hit the second home run of the day for the Big Macs for the 3-0 lead.
That would be the last of the scoring for Canon-McMillan as Baldwin scored six unanswered runs. The Highlanders tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Carly Santillo doubled in a pair of runs and junior Cheyenne Shandor recorded an RBI groundout to tie the score.
Baldwin scored three more in the fifth inning with the big blow being a two-RBI single by sophomore Allison Murray to seal the win.
The win improves Baldwin to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the section. The Highlanders will go for their fourth straight win on Monday when they host Mt. Lebanon at 4 p.m. in a section game.
Canon-McMillan drops to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the section. The Big Macs will host Bethel Park in a doubleheader on Monday starting at 4:15 p.m.
