Balanced Attack Keeps Mars Undefeated In Section Play
The Mars boys basketball had four players in double figures as the Planets took care of business on the road, defeating Shaler 79-53 in Section 3-5A action on Tuesday.
It was a lot different than the first match-up of the season, when the Planets came away with a 68-62 win on Jan. 2.
After trailing 9-5 early, Mars ended the first quarter on a 11-0 run to take control of the game.
Mars also had a 13-5 run in the second quarter to grab onto a 36-22 lead at halftime.
Senior Andrew Recchia and junior Michael Carmody both finished with 21 points. Carmody also finished with 18 rebounds. Seniors Brandon Caruso and Khori Fusco finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
For Shaler, junior Mekhi Reynolds had a game-high 26 points. Senior Justin Desabato finished with 13 points.
With the win, Mars improves to 15-1 overall and 9-0 in the section. The Planets will go for their 11th straight win on Friday when they host Franklin Regional at 7:30 p.m.
Shaler drops to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in the section. The Titans will travel to Indiana for a section game on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
