A Close Win For Lady Raiders
By Jessica Morris
It was a nail-biter on Thursday evening as the Seneca Valley varsity girls’ basketball team faced off against Butler’s Lady Tornado. The Raiders ultimately pulled out a win against the Tornado with a close score, 51-49.
Both teams started out strong in the first half. Scores remained close, and both teams seemed to be pretty evenly matched. Key contributors from Seneca included Abbie Trzeciak, Lexus Lambert, and Hannah Parey. Parey and Lambert showed their strengths at the foul line, and Trzeciak was able to win several key rebounds for the Raiders.
As they entered the third quarter, the Tornado began to lose momentum. The Raiders took this as an opportunity to create a substantial lead. By the end of the third quarter, the Raiders were leading with a score of 41-28. The game looked as though the Raiders would be the sure victors.
The game changed in the fourth quarter though after the Tornado were able to revive the score to a tie of 46-46. With minutes remaining, both teams fought to keep hold of the ball. Points were exchanging quickly in the final minutes, but the Raiders were able to pull through in the end to get the win.
Among the starters for Seneca were seniors Katie Brown, Abbie Trzeciak, and Hannah Parey, who won their Senior Night game for the Lady Raiders. Coach Rob Lombardo had fond things to say about these three seniors and their time on the team. He said that “[Parey] is one of the smartest players to ever be on the team, [Brown] is a great defensive player, and [Trzeciak] is able to score from anywhere”.
The Lady Raiders’ next game is Saturday, February 8, with JV starting at 6pm. This game will be their “Hoops for the Cure” pink-out game, and all the proceeds will benefit Breast Cancer Awareness.
