6A GIRLS SEMIFINALS

#4 Mt. Lebanon (17-6) vs. #1 Upper St. Clair (20-2) – at Bethel Park – 6 pm – TribLive HSSN

Mt. Lebanon is coming off of an epic 47-46 comeback win over Chartiers Valley to get to the WPIAL 6A Semifinals. This is the defending champions fourth consecutive season in the semifinals and their 13th appearance since 2004. Mt. Lebanon is 6-7 in WPIAL semifinal games since 2004 including a win last year in the WPIAL 6A Semifinals. They are 4-2 in championship games in that span including a win last year. Payton Collins is coming off of a 25-point performance in the quarterfinal win over Chartiers Valley including the game-winning free throw with .4 seconds left.

Upper St. Clair is coming off of a 60-43 victory over Peters Township to get to the WPIAL 6A Semifinals. This is Upper St. Clair’s fourth consecutive season in the semifinals and their 6th appearance since 2004. Upper St. Clair is 3-3 in WPIAL semifinal games including wins the last two seasons. They are 1-2 in championship games in that span with the title coming in 2008. Rylee Kalocay is coming off a 27-point performance in Upper St. Clair’s quarter final win. Samantha Prunzik had 12 points in that game and Kate Robbins had 10.

This is a rematch of last year’s WPIAL 6A Championship game, won by Mt. Lebanon 55-44. These two teams also met twice in the regular season with Upper St. Clair taking both games. They won 57-39 at home on January 5 then won 52-44 on the road on January 30.

#3 Norwin (20-3) vs. #2 North Allegheny (18-5) – at Fox Chapel – 6 pm – North Allegheny Sports Network

Norwin is coming off a 51-36 win over Baldwin to get to the WPIAL 6A Semifinals. Norwin is back in the semifinals after missing last season but being here in 2021. This is Norwin’s 5th semi final appearance since 2004. Norwin is 2-2 in WPIAL semifinal games including a loss in 2021. Norwin is 2-0 in championship games in that span with back-to-back titles coming in 2015 and 2016. Kendall Berger is coming off a 21-point performance in Norwin’s quarterfinal win.

North Allegheny is coming off of a 69-56 victory over Pine-Richland to get to the WPIAL 6A Semifinals. This is North Allegheny’s 10th consecutive season in the semifinals and 11th appearance since 2004. North Allegheny is 6-4 in WPIAL semifinal games including a loss last season. North Allegheny is 4-2 in championship games in that span going back-to-back in 2016 and 2017 then 2020 and 2021. Jasmine Timmerson is coming off of a 20-point performance in North Allegheny’s quarterfinal win. Kellie McConnell had 13 points in that game. 

This is the fourth time that North Allegheny and Norwin will face off in the semifinals or later since 2004. Norwin beat North Allegheny in the semifinals in 2015, 60-52. Norwin won again in 2016 this time in the WPIAL Championship, 63-57. North Allegheny returned the favor in the 2019 WPIAL Semifinals winning 37-36.

These teams also faced off twice this season with the home team winning both games. Norwin won on their home floor on January 3, 53-32. North Allegheny won 52-45 on its home floor on January 26.

5A GIRLS CONSOLATION

#11 Hampton vs. #7 Mars – at Knoch – 6 pm

Hampton fell to McKeesport 55-44 in the WPIAL 5A Quarterfinals. Hampton had a double digit lead in the third quarter but a 14-2 run for McKeesport gave them the lead and a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter put it away. Meghan Murray had 20 points for Hampton including her 1,000th career point. Claire Rodgers had 10 points in that game.

Mars lost to Oakland Catholic 63-42 in the WPIAL 5A Quarterfinals. Oakland Catholic scored the first 16 points of the game and rolled from there. Olivia Donnelly had 19 points for Mars while Vita Vargo had 10 points.

The winner of this game will clinch a spot in the state tournament and will play the winner of Penn-Trafford and Trinity for seeding purposes. The loser of this game will play the loser of Penn-Trafford and Trinity in the seventh-place game. The winner of the seventh-place game will advance to the state tournament while the loser’s season is over.

#8 Penn-Trafford at #4 Trinity – 8 pm – WJPA

Penn-Trafford dropped their WPIAL 5A Quarterfinal contest to top-seeded South Fayette 70-49. South Fayette led 16-8 after a quarter of play and just continued to build on their lead throughout. Olivia Pepple had 22 points for Penn-Trafford while Lauren Marton had 17 points. 

Trinity was upset by 12th-seeded Woodland Hills in the WPIAL 5A Quarterfinals 51-40. Trinity led by double digits in the second quarter but Woodland Hills were dominant on both ends of the floor and got back into the game and pulled away. Eden Williamson had 19 points for Trinity while Macie Justice had 10 points.

The winner of this game will clinch a spot in the state tournament and will play the winner of Hampton and Mars for seeding purposes. The loser of this game will play the loser of the Hampton-Mars game in the seventh-place game. The winner of the seventh-place game will advance to the state tournament while the loser’s season is over.
