5A FIRST ROUND

#15 Kiski Area (9-12) vs. #2 Oakland Catholic (19-3) – at Fox Chapel – 6 pm – TribLive HSSN

Kiski Area ended the regular season tied for third place in Section 1-5A. They average 41.1 points per game (17th in 5A) and allow 44.0 points per game (9th in 5A). Kiski Area fell at Penn Hills 50-38 on February 8 to finish the season snapping a 4-game winning streak. Abbie Johns is coming off of an 18-point performance in their regular season finale against Penn Hills.

Oakland Catholic finished the regular season champions of Section 3-5A. They average 65.5 points per game (1st in 5A) and allow 42.2 points per game (7th in 5A). Oakland Catholic fell to North Catholic 64-54 on February 11 snapping a 17-game win streak. They are led by Alexa Washington who averages 15.6 points per game. #13 Latrobe (14-8) at #4 Trinity (15-6) – 7 pm – LHTC

Latrobe finished the regular season as the fourth place finisher in Section 3-5A. They average 53.8 points per game (5th in 5A) and allow 50.1 points per game (15th in 5A). Latrobe fell to Penn-Trafford 51-45 in their regular season finale snapping a 3-game win streak. Camille Dominick and Elle Snyder are both coming off of 12-point performances in Latrobe’s last game. #12 Woodland Hills (11-11) at #5 Armstrong (19-3) – 7 pm – High Top Sports Network

Woodland Hills ended the regular season as second place finishers in Section 1-5A. They average 52.0 points per game (9th in 5A) and allow 50.7 points per game (16th in 5A). Woodland Hills defeated Gateway 72-40 on February 9 to end a 2-game losing streak. Hope Hawkins is coming off of a 27-point performance in Woodland Hills’ regular season finale. Kayla Walter had 17 points in that game.

Armstrong finished the regular season as Section 2-5A co-champions with Mars. They average 52.7 points per game (8th in 5A) and allow 37.2 points per game (1st in 5A). Penn Hills fell to City League champions Obama Academy on February 13, 27-26 snapping a 3-game win streak. They are led by Hannah Pugliese who averages 17.4 points per game. Pugliese finished the regular season 6th in 5A in scoring.

McKeesport ended the regular season as second place finishers in Section 3-5A. They average 57.7 points per game (3rd in 5A) and allow 39.3 points per game (4th in 5A). McKeesport fell to second-seeded Oakland Catholic 60-54 on February 9 ending a 6-game winning streak. Rachael Manfredo is coming off a 23-point performance. Brooke Evans had 12 points in that game and Malina Boord had 10 points.

McKeesport and Penn Hills met in the season opener on December 2 at the Wright Automotive Tip-Off Tournament at North Allegheny High School. McKeesport came away with the 51-29 victory.

Shaler ended the regular season tied for third place in Section 2-5A. They average 48.0 points per game (13th in 5A) and allow 37.8 points per game (3rd in 5A). #16 Plum (13-10) at #1 South Fayette (20-2) – 8 pm – TribLive HSSN

Plum is coming off a 46-38 victory over Montour on Thursday in the WPIAL 5A Girls Preliminary Round. Pascale Olczak had 11 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks in the game. Plum did a great job holding Montour’s leading scorer to 8 points.

South Fayette ended the regular season the champions of Section 4-5A. They average 60.7 points per game (2nd in 5A) and allow 37.4 points per game (2nd in 5A). South Fayette enters the playoffs winners of 17 of their last 18 games. They are led by Maddie Webber who averages 17.5 points per game. Webber finished the regular season 5th in 5A in scoring. Lainey Yater is coming off of a 12-point performance in South Fayette’s regular season finale. Webber had 17 points in that game.
