5A SEMIFINALS
Oakland Catholic 58, McKeesport 51
Oakland Catholic (22-3) found themselves in unfamiliar territory Tuesday night when they trailed McKeesport (20-5) by seven after a quarter of play. They were able to turn things around and come away with a 58-51 semifinal victory at Gateway High School.
After trailing to end the first quarter, Oakland Catholic would start the second frame on a 17-0 run and outscore McKeesport 19-7 in the quarter to take the lead back heading into the half. McKeesport continued to fight as they would tie the game back up, 43-43 in the fourth quarter. But a 13-2 run would put the game away for good as Oakland Catholic finished off a 58-51 win.
Alexa Washington finished with 26 points for Oakland Catholic including four crucial free throws late. Jill Gallo added 13 points and Rachel Haver netted 10. Rachel Manfredo had 16 points for McKeesport while Brooke Evans pitched in 11.
Oakland Catholic is headed to the WPIAL Championship where they will take on South Fayette on Saturday at 5 pm at the Petersen Event Center. McKeesport will host Woodland Hills in the WPIAL Third-Place Game on Thursday at 7 pm.
South Fayette 68, Woodland Hills 25
Defending champion South Fayette (23-2) has continued to do what they have done all playoffs, start fast. It was another great start for the Lions as they jumped out to a 25-2 lead after a quarter of play, which was more than enough as they rolled to a 68-25 win over Woodland Hills (13-12) on Tuesday night at Peters Township High School.
Things were never close after that as they led 46-13 which meant there would be a running clock all second half, and South Fayette coasted to a 68-25 victory.
Ava Leroux and Maddie Webber each had 14 points for South Fayette.
South Fayette is headed back to the Petersen Event Center to defend their WPIAL crown against Oakland Catholic on Saturday at 5 pm. Woodland Hills will head to McKeesport on Thursday at 7 pm to play in the WPIAL Third-Place Game.
