5A BOYS CONSOLATION GAMES

#12 McKeesport (11-11) at #8 South Fayette (14-10) – 6 pm

McKeesport dropped a heartbreaker to Gateway 53-51. They dealt with foul trouble most of the night but still had a chance at the buzzer to tie the game but couldn’t get the shot to go and Gateway escaped with the victory. Travarese Rowe led McKeesport with 14 points despite being in foul trouble most of the night. Aemond Knight had 10 points for them as well.

South Fayette fell to top-seeded Peters Township 68-60 at Bethel Park on Wednesday night. They trailed 22-13 after a quarter, was able to cut the deficit to 47-42 late in the third quarter but Peters Township would never let the game get closer than a five point margin after that. Elijah Hill finished with 27 points in the game while Michael Plasko had 15 points.

The winner of this game will clinch a spot in the state tournament and will play the winner of Mars and Fox Chapel for seeding purposes. The loser of this game will play the loser of Mars and Fox Chapel in the seventh-place game. The winner of the seventh-place game will advance to the state tournament while the losers season will be over.

#11 Fox Chapel (14-10) vs. #7 Mars (15-9) – 7 pm – at Hempfield

Fox Chapel dropped a thriller to North Hills 67-62 on Wednesday night at North Allegheny High School in a rematch of last year’s WPIAL 6A Championship Game. They started off great shooting 15 of 24 from the field in the first half and led 37-27 at halftime. North Hills made a massive push in the second half led by Royce Parham and Eric James and were able to erase the deficit and come away with the victory. Jefferson Moorefield-Brown had 17 points for Fox Chapel. Kameron Greil had 15 points and Asher White had 12 off the bench.

Mars was stifled by the top defense in 5A falling to Penn Hills 60-41 on Wednesday night at Chartiers Valley High School. Penn Hills matched great defense with a 47% shooting night while holding Mars to 21% shooting from three-point land. Tasso Sfanos had 22 points for Mars.

The winner of this game will clinch a spot in the state tournament and will play the winner of South Fayette and McKeesport for seeding purposes. The loser of this game will play the loser of South Fayette and McKeesport in the seventh-place game. The winner of the seventh-place game will advance to the state tournament while the losers season will be over.
