Peters Township Outlasts C.W. North Catholic In Three Overtimes
The Peters Township girls’ basketball team welcomed Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic, the top team in Class 4A to its gymnasium on Saturday, and nearly ended up playing two games.
The Indians came away with a 69-66 win over the Trojanettes in a non-section tune-up for the playoffs.
It was all Peters Township early on with the Indians jumping out to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter. North Catholic found its groove in the second quarter, chopping the deficit down to 23-17 at halftime. The Trojanettes continued to chip away until they finally got back in it, forcing overtime.
Both teams delivered blows back-and-forth until the Indians took control in the third overtime. Peters Township outscored North Catholic 22-19 in the overtime periods.
Sophomore Makenna Marissa led the Indians with 28 points. Fellow sophomore Isabella Mills followed with 25 points.
The win improves Peters Township to 17-2 on the season. The Indians will go for their eighth straight win on Monday at Canon-McMillan at 7:30 p.m.
