Oakland Catholic Clinches Section Outright

With one game remaining in the section schedule, the Oakland Catholic girls basketball team clinched the Section 3-5A section title with a 48-43 win at Penn Hills on Tuesday night.

The Indians still had a chance of catching the Eagles for the section title with a win, which would’ve given them the regular season sweep.

Penn Hills beat Oakland Catholic, 32-31, on Jan. 10 on a last second shot. The Eagles have not lost since that game, rattling off eight straight wins.

The teams were deadlocked after the first quarter. Oakland Catholic built their advantage that they were able to maintain, in the second quarter, outscoring Penn Hills 14-8 to take a 21-15 lead into halftime.

Penn Hills was unable to claw back as the teams stayed even throughout the second half.

Leading the way for Oakland Catholic was senior Sierra DeAngelo with a game-high 21 points. Senior Jayde Boyd chipped in with 10 points.

For Penn Hills. senior Adia Brisker finished with 12 points.

With the win, Oakland Catholic improves to 18-2 overall and 12-1 in the section. The Eagles will round out their section play on Thursday with a game at Uniontown at 7:30 p.m.

The loss drops Penn Hills to 13-6 overall and 9-3 in the section. The Indians will travel to Woodland Hills on Friday for a section game at 6 p.m.
