Section 4 Titans Clash In Girls Basketball Game of the Week

Tonight the Bethel Park Black Hawks and Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils clash in the MSA Sports & Quad-A Conference Girls’ Basketball Game of the Week. This evening’s contest pits two Section 4 titans and perennial WPIAL championship contenders. Between the two, Bethel Park and Mt. Lebanon have won four of the last five WPIAL titles.  The Black Hawks are the reigning champions while the Blue Devils’ most recent crowns have come in 2009, 2010 and 2012.

Entering this evening’s contest, Bethel Park boasts a 13-1 record and 7-1 mark in section play. Despite losing 1,000 point scorer and Drexel-recruit Megan Marecic to an ACL injury in the off-season, the Black Hawks have not missed a beat. Using a well-balanced approach, senior guard Harper Zimmer and senior forward Samantha Simpson are returning starters who have provided valuable experience in the absence of Marecic. Freshman forward Justina Mascaro has been a fine addition, contributing 10 points per game and 7 rebounds per game. Bethel Park is ranked third by the MSA Sports Network.

Mt. Lebanon has won four games in a row and is 12-3 overall and undefeated in section play with a 7-0 record. Playing in one of the toughest sections in Quad-A, it was Mt. Lebanon who won the Section 4 title last season. The Blue Devils have won six straight outright conference crowns and bring back senior forward Christine Ehland and senior guard/forward Madeline Collins. Both are over six feet tall and are a handful on the inside. Senior guard Margie McCaffrey is a fiery player who can carry the offense with her timely passes or accurate jump shot.  Mt. Lebanon is ranked second by the MSA Sports Network.

Tip-off for tonight’s Quad-A Game of the Week is slated for 7:30 pm. Don Rebel and Randy Gore will have the call with pre-game slated for 7:15 pm. You can listen to tonight’s game by clicking here!
