The Penn-Trafford Warriors overcame a 15-point second half deficit to win their first ever WPIAL Class AAAA Championship, 56-45, over the Hempfield Spartans on Saturday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center. The Warriors trailed 40-25 late in the third quarter, and were down by 10 heading into the fourth, before 31-5 run capped an astonishing comeback.  While Penn-Trafford caught fire in the final stanza, their Section 1 rivals were ice cold as Hempfield missed all 11 field goal attempts.

Junior Maria Palarino scored a game-high 21 points for Penn-Trafford and Hempfield’s Monica Burns netted 19 points for the Spartans.

Penn-Trafford improves to 20-6 on the season and will face the North Allegheny Tigers on Friday night at a site and time to be determined. Hempfield falls to 17-9 and will take on Obama Academy from the City League on Friday.
