Gateway gave top-seeded Chartiers Valley all they could handle in the boys basketball Class 5A quarterfinals, but the Colts (21-3) were able to prevail, 53-47, over the No. 8 Gators (8-8).

The game was tied at half before Chartiers Valley slowly started to build the lead in the second half to the point where the Gators could not get over the hump.

Senior Brayden Reynolds led the Colts with 19 points. Senior Garrett Alauzen chipped in with 13 points.

The Colts will be looking for redemption from last years semifinals against Mars, where they lost 59-50.

They will host the Fightin Planets on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
