Gallagher’s 32 leads Laurel Highlands to a 65-58 win over McKeesport

Ryan Gallagher scored 32 points and Laurel Highlands used a 15-0 run in the fourth quarter to defeat McKeesport 65-58 in both teams section opener Friday night. The win snapped a six-game losing streak Laurel Highlands had against McKeesport.

McKeesport controlled the opening quarter feeding their bigs, specifically Deamontae Diggs, and played great defense to get out to a 14-7 lead after a quarter. Laurel Highlands started to get the transition game going in quarter number two and was able to cut the McKeesport lead to five at the half, 27-22.

The third quarter was back-and-forth as both teams went on runs. McKeesport looked to have a 45-41 lead heading into the fourth quarter but Gallagher was fouled shooting a three and made all three free throws making McKeesport’s lead only 45-44 heading into the fourth.

Laurel Highlands exploded in the fourth quarter scoring the first 12 points of the quarter jumping out to a 56-45 lead. McKeesport was able to cut the lead to single digits but could never recover from the run and the Mustangs of Laurel Highlands won the game 65-58.

Gallagher was the PlayerPager Player of the Game with 32 points. Tyvaughn Young chipped in with 16.

Diggs led McKeesport in scoring with 23 points. Travarese Rowe adder 10.

Laurel Highlands improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in Section 1-5A. They go on the road to take on Woodland Hills in another section matchup Tuesday night.

McKeesport falls to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in Section 1-5A. The Tigers will look to bounce back on Tuesday night when they have their home opener against Greensburg Salem in a section matchup.
