Defending Champ Canon-Mac Goes Distance Against Penn-Trafford

The defending Class 4A WPIAL champion, Canon-McMillan, advanced in the first round of the playoffs as the No. 10 Big Macs defeated No. 7 Penn-Trafford on the road, 3-2.

It was the fourth straight match the Big Macs went to five sets, going 3-1 in that stretch.

Penn-Trafford jumped out to a 2-0 lead with winning sets of 25-18 and 25-19, but couldn’t finish it out.

Canon-McMillan won the last three sets, 25-18, 27-25 and 15-13.

For the Big Macs, Hayley Bockius had 13 digs, four kills and three aces. Bella McFarland had 13 digs, and five kills. Jenna Vogen had a stellar performance with 16 digs and 20 kills. Lauren Reid finished with seven digs and 31 assists. Joelle Germeyer had 11 digs, Vicky Manda chipped in with five kills and four blocks and Abby Thornbury had eight digs, five kills and two blocks.

Canon-McMillan will travel to No. 2 Shaler on Saturday in the quarterfinals at noon.
