The Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association announced the all-state softball teams last night. Numerous players from Big 56 teams made the cut.

BASEBALL

PIAA 6A QUARTERFINALS

(3-1) Cedar Cliff 2, (7-2) North Allegheny 1

Ayden Frey hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Cedar Cliff (20-6) the lead and they were able to hold on for the 2-1 semifinal victory over North Allegheny (17-8). 

Cedar Cliff advances to the PIAA Semifinals where they will take on WPIAL champion Mt. Lebanon on Monday at a site and time to be determined.

(7-1) Mt. Lebanon 5, (1-2) Spring-Ford 2 – 9 innings

Jacob Tinnemeyer hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to break a 2-2 tie and Mt. Lebanon (15-10) held on for a 5-2 extra inning win over Spring-Ford (22-4) on Thursday afternoon at Big Spring High School.

Michael DeHaan allowed one earned run over eight innings pitched for Spring-Ford. Mt. Lebanon advances to the PIAA Semifinals where they will take on District 3 Champion, Cedar Cliff on Monday at a site and time to be determined.

PIAA 5A QUARTERFINALS

(12-1) Monsignor Bonner 3, (7-2) Bethel Park 1

Kevin McGonigle was 3-for-3 with a home run and drove in two runs as Monsignor Bonner (12-3) took down the two-time defending state champion Bethel Park (18-6) Black Hawks on Thursday afternoon. Harry Carr threw six scoreless innings for Monsignor Bonner.

Monsignor Bonner will face off with WPIAL champion Shaler in the PIAA Semifinals on Monday at a site and time to be determined.

Jordyn Klingensmith was 2-for-3 with a home run and drove in six runs and Emma Smerick drove in two as Armstrong (21-2) rolled to a 15-0 quarterfinal victory over W.C. Rusting (17-9) in three innings on Thursday. Cameryn Sprankle threw a one-hitter.

Armstrong advances to the PIAA Semifinals where they will take on Shaler on Monday at a site and time to be determined.
