A couple of third-place finishers square off when No. 10 Shaler takes on No. 7 Peters Township at Upper St Clair at 6 p.m.

The second match of that doubleheader at USC has No. 5 Upper St. Clair hosting No. 12 Fox Chapel at 7:30 p.m.

The other two 4A first-round matches are at Pine-Richland where No. 9 Hempfield battles No. 8 North Hills at 6 p.m. and No. 4 Pine-Richland welcomes No. 13 Mt. Lebanon at 7:30 p.m.

The first round will take place on Tuesday, October 24 with the quarterfinals kicking off on Thursday, October 26. WPIAL Girls Volleyball Bracketology

With the WPIAL Girls Volleyball brackets getting released in under an hour, here are our thoughts on how the seeding will go:

Class 4A

1. North Allegheny – bye

2. Seneca Valley – bye

3. Canon-McMillan – bye

13. Fox Chapel at 4. Pine-Richland

12. Bethel Park at 5. Penn-Trafford

11. Mt. Lebanon at 6. North Hills

10. Shaler at 7. Upper St. Clair

9. Hempfield at 8. Peters Township

Top 3 seeds didn’t take much thought, clearly the top three teams. Penn-Trafford could make a case for #5 seed since they were section champions, can’t put them at #4 because they lost to Pine-Richland in non-section action. Put North Hills at #6 just to avoid a first round game against a section opponent and they had a very good non-section schedule. Mt. Lebanon gets seeded ahead of Bethel Park and Fox Chapel because of they beat Shaler and Hempfield who are fellow playoff teams.
