Woodland Hills Knocks Off Defending WPIAL and PIAA Champion Peters Twp.

Coming off a perfect season, with a WPIAL Championship and PIAA title just a year ago, the Peters Township girls’ basketball team came out flat-footed against Woodland Hills in the opening game of 2019, losing 63-55 in the Baldwin/Peters Township AHN/Highmark Tip-Off Tournament.

The Wolverines came out firing on offense, led by strong performances from sophomore Jazmine Dunn and senior Joi Burleigh, who finished the game with 25 and 13 points respectively. Dunn was named the PlayerPager Player of the Game.

The first half was a missed opportunity for the Indians but kept the pace and went into halftime down 23-17. Star sophomore Journey Thompson was held to six points in the opening half.

Peters Township second half comeback fell short, as Thompson paired with sophomore Avana Sayles to score 31 combined points. Key shots from junior Peyton Pinkey and Tatiana Vazquez sealed the victory for Woodland Hills.
