Penn-Trafford Picks Up Extra Inning Road Win

The magnitude of Monday’s Section 2-6A baseball game between Penn-Trafford and Plum was not important in terms of making the playoffs. Both teams already locked themselves in but the Warriors helped their seeding cause with a 6-5 win in eight innings.

The Warriors and Mustangs have now split the season series and are both tied for second place in the section, a game behind Hempfield.

Senior Zach Mancz delivered the game-winning single with two outs to score junior Ben Mongelluzzo. Plum was able to get the first two runners on base in the bottom of the eighth but junior Maclean Maund shut the door to preserve the win.

Plum struggled to get the timely hit all game, stranding 10 runners in scoring position.

Penn-Trafford improved to 8-5 overall and 6-3 in the section. The Warriors will host Norwin in the section finale on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Plum drops to 9-4 overall and 6-3 in the section. The Mustangs’ five game winning streak was snapped in the process. They will look to get back on track on Wednesday when they travel to Penn Hills for the section finale at 4 p.m.
