Offense Shows Up Again For West Allegheny Baseball in PIAA Quarterfinal Win

The West Allegheny baseball team was the last WPIAL Class 5A team to qualify for the state tournament. They are also the last team out of the three qualifiers left after its  7-4 win against Red Land at Mt. Aloysius College in the PIAA Quarterfinals.

In their two state playoff games, the Indians have scored 16 runs.

The difference was a 3-run triple by junior Logan Malatak. Also driving in runs for West Allegheny were seniors Trey Zeroski and Brandon Cooper. Zeroski finished the game 3 for 4.

On the mound, sophomore Austin Hendrick picked up the win, striking out six and allowing four hits in 4.2 innings. He also went 2 for 2 at the plate.

The Indians improve to 16-2 and will play Marple Newtown in Monday in the PIAA Semifinals at a site and time to be determined. Marple Newtown defeats Mars, 6-1, in the other quarterfinal game.
