Oakland Catholic pulls away late; defeats Penn Hills 57-37

Oakland Catholic used hot shooting and great defense in the the second half to pull away from Penn Hills late, winning the game 57-37.

Penn Hills started the game with defense turning into offense, jumping out to a 13-7 lead after the first quarter. Oakland Catholic cut the lead in the second quarter with Margaret Terry hitting three 3-pointers in the quarter and at the half, Oakland Catholic had a 19-18 lead.

The third quarter saw Oakland Catholic’s outside shots start to fall as they started to get separation from Penn Hills leading 35-28. The fourth quarter was all Oakland Catholic as the defense forced numerous turnovers and all shots were falling. The Eagles outscored Penn Hills 22-9 in the quarter and won the game, 57-37.

Terry finished with 19 points and was named the PlayerPager Player of the Game. Freshman Rachel Haver added 13 points and Alexa Washington, another freshman, had nine.

Amoni Blackwell paced Penn Hills with 13 points. A’Lysa Sledge gave the Indians a spark off the bench with eight of her own.

The win improves Oakland Catholic to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in Section 3-5A. The Eagles will be back in action Monday when they host Uniontown in another Section 3-5A game at 7:30 p.m.

Penn Hills falls to 6-6 overall and 4-1 in Section 3-5A. Another big game for the Indians coming up as they head to Woodland Hills on Tuesday to take on the Wolverines at 6 p.m. Woodland Hills currently sits at the top of Section 3-5A with a 6-0 section record.
