Oakland Catholic Handles Latrobe In Battle of Unbeatens

An early season showdown in Section 3-5A went to Oakland Catholic on Monday night against visiting Latrobe. 

The Eagles cruised to a 69-50 win to remain undefeated on the season. 

Latrobe held a 17-13 lead after the first quarter, but the tide would quickly change after that. Oakland Catholic’s defense stood tall to only allow six points in the second quarter and take a 30-23 lead at halftime. 

The lead continued to swell in the second half as the Eagles outscored the Wildcats, 39-27, in the final two quarters. 

Oakland Catholic had three players in double figures, led by Jayde Boyd with 20 points. Alexis Sestric had 17 points and Sierra DeAngelo finished with 15 points. 

For Latrobe, senior Carly Augustine tied a game-high with 20 points. Sophomore Rachel Ridilla finished with 11 points. 

Oakland Catholic improves to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the section. The Eagles will travel to Orlando, Fla. this week and compete in the KSA Disney Tournament. There first game is on Friday at 2 p.m. against a team to be determined. 

Latrobe drops its first game of the season, falling to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the section. The Wildcats will return on Friday in a section game at Penn Hills at 6 p.m.
