Norwin Returns To WPIAL Championship Game

After a one year hiatus, the Norwin girls soccer program returned to the Class 4A WPIAL Championship Game.

The Knights (18-1) did so by defeating the defending champion Seneca Valley, 1-0, in the semifinals at North Allegheny on Monday night. It also avenged their only loss of the season, a 4-3 defeat on Sept. 20.

This is Norwin’s fourth Championship Game appearance in the last five years, winning in 2015 and 2016.

After a scoreless first half, junior first-team all-section pick Katelyn Kauffman found the back of the net for the lone goal of the game.

Top-seeded Norwin will battle No. 3 North Allegheny (16-2-1) in the Championship Game on Thursday at Highmark Stadium at 6 p.m.

This will be the second meeting of the season between the squads. The Knights defeated the Tigers 3-1 on Oct. 10
