For the second night in a row, No. 2 Norwin delivered a 2-1 win on its home field in the WPIAL Quarterfinals. Like the girls did on Wednesday, the boys soccer team accomplished the feat on Thursday against No. 7 Peters Township.

The win was the first playoff win for the Knights since 2010.

The team’s were scoreless through the first 40 minutes of play, but it didn’t take long into the second half for Norwin to get on the scoreboard. Four minutes in, senior Carter Breen scored on a breakaway for the 1-0 lead. Fellow senior, Jake Nebinski put in the insurance goal with just under 11 minutes to go on a penalty kick and 2-0 lead.

Peters Township cut the deficit in half on a goal from Jake Ference with five minutes to go, but couldn’t find the equalizer for the remainder of the game.

Norwin improves to 16-2-1 on the season and advances to the WPIAL Semifinals on Monday against Upper St. Clair. The game will be at North Allegheny at 8 p.m.
