Peters Township’s season came down to penalty kicks and unfortunately for the Indians, it didn’t end the way they wanted it.

After trailing twice in the Class 4A boys soccer state semifinal game against Hempfield-Lancaster on Tuesday Night at Altoona, the Indians fought back both times to tie it, but was not able to get that deciding goal to book them another trip to the PIAA championship in Hershey this weekend.

Hempfield started the scoring with 35:30 remaining in the first half on a perfectly placed ball off the foot of Ryan Helper. From 25-yards out, Hepler aimed for the upper right corner of the net, getting it past Peters Township goalkeeper, Derek Deyarmin.

It didn’t take long for the Indians to tie it. Logan Brinsky, a first-team all-conference selection,  

Delivered five minutes later to tie it 1-1.

Hempfield retook the lead at 17:53 with a goal from Jake Suchar, and tok the one-goal lead into halftime.

The Indians came out strong in the second half, controlling time of possession, but was about to break through with the tying goal until 17:20 left in regulation. Bryce Gabelhart, another first-team all-conference selection, collected a loose ball and put it in the back of the net.

The score remained tied through the duration of the second half and through two fifteen minute overtimes.

Peters Township couldn’t stop Hempfield on penalty kicks, losing 5-4.

The Indians conclude the season with a record of 19-2-1. Their lone losses were in the WPIAL championship game and PIAA semifinals.
