Mt. Lebanon Holds Off Allderdice For Final Statement Win

The Mt. Lebanon boys basketball team became the second Class 6A WPIAL team to knock off City League powerhouse, Allderdice, on Saturday night.

The Blue Devils defeated the Dragons in a low-scoring affair, 52-50. Upper St. Clair used the same formula when they defeated Allderdice, 58-51, back on Jan. 16.

Mt. Lebanon was able to play at its tempo that has worked all season long after jumping out to a 25-14 lead after the first quarter.

Allderdice continued to chip into the lead throughout the game and found themselves down 45-43 entering the fourth quarter, but points were hard to come by for the final eight minutes. Both teams only scored seven points in the quarter to allowed the Blue Devils to hold onto the statement non-section win a few days before the playoff pairings are revealed.

Leading the way for Mt. Lebanon was senior Sean Loughran with 19 points, including five 3-pointers. Junior Blaine Gartley added 10 points.

Mt. Lebanon improves to 18-3 on the season and will close out the regular season on Monday when they host Chartiers Valley at 7:30 p.m.
