Moon Crowned State Champion After Fourth Quarter Comeback

The Moon boys basketball team spent the entire first half playing with the lead, but it took a furious fourth quarter rally to get past District 12 champion, Archbishop Wood.

Down by nine points in the fourth quarter, the Tigers outscored the Vikings 30-13 in the final eight minutes to come away with a 74-64 win in the Class 5A Championship Game at the Giant Center in Hershey.

The win gave Moon its second boys basketball state title, with the first coming in 2004.

The catalyst for the comeback was senior guard, Connor Ryan, Ryan scored 24 of his 28 in the second half, and 17 in the fourth quarter alone.

Moon also had a big performance from the line to seal the victory, going 15 for 18.

In the first half, it was junior Donovan Johnson who paced the Tigers, scoring 12 of his 17 points in the first 16 minutes. Senior Taru Jones had a surprisingly good game offensively, scoring 13 points with a couple of 3-pointers. Another senior wanting to go out on top, Jioni Smith, finished with 11 assists and eight points. Austin Ryan poured in eight points including a couple of big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Congratulations to Moon on winning the Class 5A PIAA championship!
