Moon picks up huge road win at Thomas Jefferson, 55-52

Moon dominated the glass all night and got 26 points from sophomore Reilly Sunday in a big 55-52 road win Thursday night at Thomas Jefferson.

Thomas Jefferson came out of the gate hot taking a 14-4 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Moon settled in and trimmed Thomas Jefferson’s lead to 16-10 by the end of the period. Moon kept the momentum rolling by starting the second quarter on an 11-1 run. The Tigers dominated the quarter outscoring Thomas Jefferson, 16-4, and led at the half, 26-20.

Moon extended the lead to 16 in the third quarter, but Thomas Jefferson fought back to cut the lead to five heading into the fourth quarter, 43-38. Sunday had nine points in the third quarter. The fourth quarter was back-and-forth with each team trading the lead. Down one with under a minute to go, Sunday hit a go-ahead shot, Moon’s defense got the stop and then Emma Theodorsson hit two free throws and Moon escaped with a 55-52 win.

Sunday was named the PlayerPager Player of the Game for her efforts. Theodorsson helped with 14 points.

Graci Fairman paced Thomas Jefferson with 16 points. Alyssa DeAngelo added 13 points and Maddy Trainer had 10.

With the win, Moon moves into a third place tie with Thomas Jefferson as they improved to 10-4 overall and 5-3 in Section 1-5A. Next up for the Tigers will be McKeesport on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Woodland Hills for the MLK Weekend Showcase.

Thomas Jefferson falls to 10-5 overall and 5-3 in Section 1-5A. The Jaguars will head to West Allegheny on Monday to take on the Indians at 7:30 pm.
