Montour’s Jaden Nelson Records 1,000th Point In Key Win Against Chartiers Valley

The Montour boys basketball team had a lot to celebrate on Tuesday night.

The Spartans knocked off visiting Chartiers Valley, 59-54, to pull within a tie of second place in Section 2-5A with the Colts and senior Jaden Nelson joined the 1,000 point club in the process.

Nelson finished with 13 points on the night to reach the feat.

Montour holds the edge over Chartiers Valley after sweeping the Colts in the regular season series. The Spartans won 57-48 back on Jan. 11.

The two teams were evenly matched throughout the game, but the Spartans were able to open the gap just enough in the middle two quarters.

After trailing, 15-11 after one, the Spartans took a 26-23 lead at halftime. Montour was able to keep the lead throughout the second half.

Junior James Eubanks led Montour with 23 points.

For Chartiers Valley, junior Jared Goldstrohm led with 15 points and senior Joe Pipilo added 11.

Montour improves to 14-7 overall and 10-3 in the section. The Spartans will travel to section champion Moon on friday for the section and regular season finale a 7:30 p.m.

Chartiers Valley drops to 15-4 overall and 10-3 in the section. The Colts will host West Allegheny in the section finale on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
