Latrobe remains undefeated in section with win at Hempfield

The Greater Latrobe girls volleyball team ran their section leading record to 5-0 last evening with a dominate straight set victory over the Hempfield Spartans, 25-17, 25-23 and 25-16.

Senior setter and right side hitter Carly Augustine turned in a solid performance at both positions with a team leading 11 kills and 10 assists for the match.

Senior outside hitter Beth Havrilla supported the Wildcat cause with nine kills of her own, followed by Savina Pavlik and Lauren Cammerata each with five kills. Pavlik was a force from the service line also, recording five service aces.

The balance of the Latrobe offense was contributed by Sadie Wetzel’s four kills and Emma Fenton with one. Fenton also provided three service aces and led the team in blocking with three.

Junior setter Abby Rullo applied the Wildcat game plan to perfection chalking up 20 assists and a service ace in the victory.

Defensively, Emma Fenton kept the Spartans from scoring 12 times with her team leading digs total. Havrilla posted a dig total of seven and 14 additional digs were turned in by Rullo, Kammeran Giannilli, Augustine and Pavlik, who had five, four, three and two respectively.

The Lady Wildcats return home on Thursday night to host the Connellsville Falcons in another section match at 7 p.m. Hempfield drops to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the section. The Spartans sit alone in second place and will host Penn-Trafford in a section match on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
