Late Home Run Sends Hempfield Softball To Third Straight PIAA Championship Game

Sophomore Ashley Orischak belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning in Tuesday’s Class 6A PIAA Semifinal Game against Nazareth at Norlo Park in Fayetteville and that was all the scoring the Hempfield softball team needed to punch a return ticket to the State Championship Game.

The 2-0 win means that the Spartans will be playing in its third straight PIAA Championship Game, and they have won the previous two.

Senior Maddie Uschock continued to be stellar in the circle, pitching a four-hit shutout. Uschock also finished the game with eight strikeouts, and got out of some jams in the early innings.

Hempfield improves to 23-3 and will face District 11 champion, Parkland, in the Class 6A PIAA Championship Game on Friday at 4 p.m. at Penn State University.
