Hampton Girls Basketball Wins Battle Against Mars
Both Hampton and Mars entered the final game of the first round of section play in girls basketball undefeated, but it was Hampton who remained that status with a 54-52 road win on Monday night.
The Talbots jumped out to a 28-20 halftime lead, and were able to play ahead throughout the game to come away with the victory. The Planets outscored their rivals 32-26 in the second half, but needed a couple more points for the win.
Leading the way for Hampton was senior Laryn Edwards with 32 points. Edwards scored 59 percent of her team’s points. Junior Tai Johnson led the Planets with 20 points.
Hampton improves to 9-2 and 6-0 in Section 4-5A. They will look for its sixth straight win on Friday when they travel to Plum. Mars drops to 9-4 and 5-1. They return to action on Wednesday at Pine-Richland in a non-section game at 7:30 p.m.
