No. 1 Chartiers Valley Colts (24-0) vs. No. 6 Thomas Jefferson Jaguars (19-6) At Petersen Events Center, 3 PM

Chartiers Valley and Thomas Jefferson have taken two separate paths to the Class 5A WPIAL Championship Game. Chartiers Valley, under first year head coach Tim McConnell, hasn’t felt the feeling of defeat this season. McConnell has won six WPIAL titles with the Chartiers Valley boys team and is seeking his first with the girls. The Colts knocked off No. 4 Penn Hills at Fox Chapel, 45-37, to advance to the Petersen Events Center. Just like they have all season long, Chartiers Valley has been relying on its defense, holding the Indians to under 10 points in three out of the first four quarters. Offensively, senior first-team all-section guard Mackenzie Wagner led the way with 25 points. The Colts are in the Championship Game for the second time in three years. They defeated Oakland Catholic for the title in 2017, 52-36…Thomas Jefferson is arguably the hottest team in the playoffs right now, winning each game by double digits, including against two section champions, Gateway and Oakland Catholic. On Wednesday, the Jaguars defeated Oakland Catholic, 68-55. The win punched Thomas Jefferson its first WPIAL Championship Game appearance in 39 years. The catalyst for the victory was first-team all-section guard, Jenna Clark. Clark finished with 30 points. Also contributing was Alyssa DeAngelo with 21 points. The Jaguars broke the game open with a 23-9 third quarter after being tied at halftime…These teams are familiar with each other as section foes during the regular season. Chartiers Valley won both meetings, 68-50 on Jan. 16 and 41-38 on Jan. 24.
